Day in the life of JEBS' plumber Scott Taylor


My day starts early, as I aim to get to my first job by 8am. I work on a number of things, but resolving problems such as having no hot water is the most common! I’ll visit a mixture of commercial and residential customers throughout the day, so I can be working anywhere from someone’s tiny bathroom to the kitchen of a bustling restaurant. If I’m lucky, I finish by 5pm, but if I am on call it’s often much later.

The variety of jobs means it’s hard to get bored, the technical aspect - identifying a problem and working out how to fix it - delivers a real sense of satisfaction. Being on the road every day and meeting lots of new people is great. A lot of my customers, particularly some elderly people, love it when you’re there. They enjoy our company and someone to talk to – that’s always nice.

What I like most is the satisfaction I get when I’ve helped a customer with a repair. That might be no hot water, a problem with the central heating or a fault with the boiler. People don’t always realise how much they rely on hot water until it’s gone! Every job’s interesting and I enjoy it.

I love being part of a team, working within a great group of people who are always thinking of new ways to improve our services to our customers.
